This small collection of patterns is created by Melissa Leapman for your enjoyment. Each one of the designs is named after an neighbourhood in Montevideo to allow you, the knitter to connect with the city where your yarn is produced. We have put some details about the areas below but more can be read in the book:
"La Teja" (roof tile) is a working-class neighbourhood which has been named that way because of its British style housing with sloping roofs.
"Sayago" is an industrial neighbourhood in the centre of Montevideo named after a Congolese sailor.
"Goes" is a neighbourhood originally inhabited by poor immigrants and is thought to be the birthplace of the Tango.
"El Cerro" (the hill) is located on or around the only hill in Montevideo and is charaterised by steep streets similar to those in San Francisco.
"Malvin" (a variant of the name Balbin) is named after Juan Balbin who was the owner of a meat slating plant in the 1770s.
"Carrasco" is located on the edge of the River Plate estuary and is home to many of the city's most wealthy inhabitants.
